TGIF @ BROOKHAVEN: March 2nd, 2007

(Place: Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Long Island, New York)

This coming Friday, March 2nd, I will give lessons in “Bachata” from 7:10 to 9:30 pm, with a short food break at about 8 pm.

After the lessons, general social dancing will follow up to 11:30 pm; Digital DJ dance mix - Ballroom, Latin, Swing, etc…

Schedule:
7:10 - 8:00: Dance Lessons, “Bachata, Part 1”,

8:00 - 8:20: Dinner Break (Cold hero buffet, coffee, etc.) (heros include one vegetarian),

8:20 - 9:30: Dance Lessons, “Bachata, Part 2”,

9:30 - 11:30 pm: Open dancing with digital-DJ general dance mix

General Admission:
$15 per person! Covers everything!! Includes dance lessons, cold food buffet, and social dancing, etc. ($8 after 9:30 pm - just for the dance social).

Unless otherwise noted, workshops and lessons are from 7:10 pm to 9:30 pm with a food break in-between, followed by open social dancing up to 11:30 pm at the Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, New York.

Cost per person: $15(members)/$20(non-members), or $8/$12 for social dancing only without the lessons; members rate applies also to all Bera members with BNL ID, SDLI members with ID, students with school ID, and all subscribers of the Social-L list and the Yahoo DanceLovers group. (Special events have different rates).

Dance socials are open to the general public, but require a photo-id at the BNL front gate.

Dancing starts at 7:00PM with the beginner West Coast Swing lesson starting at 7:30PM and the intermediate dance lesson at 8:30PM. Open dancing with a California mix of music until 11:00PM. (Previously the lessons where held every Sunday).

The Boston Tea Party began in 1998 as an annual party that attracted dancers primarily from the East Coast. It continued to grow in popularity to become one of the premier dance events in the country. In 2006, the event attracted more than 1200 dancers from across the United States and around the world.

The Boston Tea Party is a four day celebration that includes 75 Swing Dance workshops taught by over 50 of the world’s top instructors in all levels of swing dance, including more than 20 workshops geared for the absolute beginner.

The Boston Tea Party plays host to competitions, performances and exhibitions of three major forms of swing dance: West Coast Swing, Lindy Hop and Balboa. TGIF @ BROOKHAVEN: March 23rd, 2007

(Place: Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Long Island, New York; see “Directions to BNL” below)

This coming Friday, March 23rd, Mike Rodriguez will give lessons in “Intl. Samba” from 7:10 to 9:30 pm, with a short food break at about 8 pm.

After the lessons, general social dancing will follow up to 11:30 pm; Digital DJ dance mix - Ballroom, Latin, Swing, etc…

7:10 - 8:00: Dance Lessons, “Samba, Part 1”,
8:00 - 8:20: Dinner Break (Cold hero buffet, coffee, etc.) (heros include one vegetarian),
8:20 - 9:30: Dance Lessons, “Samba, Part 2”,
9:30 - 11:30 pm: Open dancing with digital-DJ general dance mix

General Admission:
$15 per person! Covers everything!! Includes dance lessons, cold food buffet, and social dancing, etc. ($8 after 9:30 pm - just for the dance social).

Organizer: BNL Social & Cultural Club (BNL)

The BNL Social & Cultural Club holds weekly dance socials (TGIFs) and workshops at the North Ballroom, Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory every Friday evening from 7 to 11:30 pm.

Unless otherwise noted, workshops and lessons are from 7:10 pm to 9:30 pm with a food break in-between, followed by open social dancing up to 11:30 pm at the Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, New York.

Cost per person: $15(members)/$20(non-members), or $8/$12 for social dancing only without the lessons; members rate applies also to all Bera members with BNL ID, SDLI members with ID, students with school ID, and all subscribers of the Social-L list and the Yahoo DanceLovers group. (Special events have different rates).

Dance socials are open to the general public, but require a photo-id at the BNL front gate.

We were originally planning to have a intermediate Charleston lesson this Tuesday, it has been postponed till next Tuesday so that we will have the big room to teach in. Beginner east coast swing dance lesson will start at 8:00PM as normal.

Alex will be instructing the beginner east coast swing lesson.

Music will be provided by DJ.

Four time U.S. Open Swing Dance Champion Heidi Groskreutz & the top British male Latin dancer, Kevin Clifton will be guest instructors at Smooth Street Ballroom on Friday, March 30th.
You might have seen Heidi on the hit summer show “So You Think You Can Dance,” where she made it to the final four dancers!

7:30 pm East Coast Swing Workshop (intermediate level)
8:30 pm West Coast Swing Workshop (intermediate level)
9:30 pm Dance Party

Workshops are $25 for one and $40 for both. A discount has been extend to SDLI members so that you can attend both workshops for $30, a savings of $10. You must present your SDLI membership card at the door.
The Dance Party is $5. Note that both Heidi and Kevin are available for private lessons during Friday afternoon.

Innovative Dancesport will be having a Semi-Formal at the Island Hills Country Club (458 Lakeland Ave, Sayville, NY 11782) on Saturday, March 31st between 7PM and 11:30PM.

Specializing in social and competitive Latin and Ballroom dancing, Michael Rodriguez runs a series of Salsa classes at Innovative Fitness, 180 Commerce Drive right in the Hauppauge Industrial Park.

The Wednesday group Salsa classes are a blast. Mike’s style is to have you switch dance partners frequently so that you learn quickly and gives you the ability to dance with almost anyone.
