Dance classes are held from 7-8 PM before the band starts playing. There is no additional charge for these classes which are taught by guest instructors from various dance schools. The band plays from 8:00 to midnight, usually broken up into four sets. Recorded music is played during the three intermissions, so people can still dance while the band is on break. Sometimes an intermission will feature dance performances by guest artists.

Once a month, we will be having two instructors at 8:00PM. One set of instructors will be teaching beginner east coast swing. The other set of instructors will be teaching an intermediate lesson for our more experienced dancers.
Dave and Stephanie will be teaching an intermediate level Charleston class.
Brad & Ashley will be teaching a fundamentals of Swing class.

Long Island Sound Vocal Jazz Ensemble of C.W. Post will be having a 1950’s Sock Hop on Friday, April 13th. Sounds like a lot of fun with 50’s themed evening, centered around dinner and swing dancing lessons.
The ensemble has been given the opportunity to perform in the Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux Switzerland. This Sock Hop event will help raise money for the cost of this tour.

The Brown Swing Club will be hosting a DAVE & KIM WORKSHOP on April 14-15, 2007!!
Dave Frutos and Kim are six time US Open finalists, including their title as the 1998 US OPEN Lindy Hop Showcase Champions, and have film and television credits, including “Mulholland Drive”, “Beverly Hills 90210”, “Everybody Loves Raymond”, “Ally McBeal”, were choreographers for “The 13th Floor” and “Pearl Harbor”, and appeared in Brian Setzer’s “Jump, Jive ‘N Wail” music video. With their upbeat teaching style and clear explanations, Dave and Kim will teach you the Lindy Hop social dance skills that are needed for a solid foundation, and the Flash and Trash moves you can’t get enough of for jam circles, or just for fun!

UPDATE: April 13th, 5:00PM - Due to concerns about the predicted bad weather on Sunday, the event has been canceled. We hope to reschedule the event for another Sunday Evening.
We are going to put on a Swing Dance demo for the folks at the Dominican Village Retirement Community in Amityville on Sunday, April 15 between 7:00PM and 8:00PM. The Dominican Village has a new state of the art auditorium, with a large dance floor which fits up to 250 people. If you are a SDLI member and would like to volunteer (i.e. dance to swing music) please sign up at our Tuesday dances.

Ithaca Lindy Reunion
The former capital of Lindy Hop welcomes you back for a weekend of Lindy Hop workshops with Peter Strom and Ramona Staffeld! As well as the array of beginning to advanced Lindy Hop workshops, there’s a blues workshop and an advanced critique class limited to 20 dancers.
We have the amazing fortune to have the Boilermaker Jazz Band from Pittsburgh for our Friday dance. They are beloved by Lindy Hop and Balboa enthusiasts all over the country and play at top events everywhere.
On Saturday evening, experience one of Ithaca’s favorite bands, Djug Django. They are known for their tight rhythm and choppin’ guitars that will make you want to move!
Late night DJ blues dance parties will be held at historic Ithaca homes with DJs Mike Thibault and Dhruv Bhargava.
Ithaca’s beautiful scenery will be featured in a Saturday afternoon group hike to Taughannock Falls. Find out for yourself why we all sport “Ithaca is Gorges” T-shirts.
Early registration discount is available if your check is received by April 10th. Check must be received by April 1st if you would like a Reunion T-shirt.

7:15 - 8:15: Lindy Hop lessons at the North Ballroom; quick review of the basics, then the 8-count moves, and then finally the basic lindy charleston;
8:15 - 8:30: Dance practice with DJ music;
8:30 - 11:30 pm: Open dancing with live music by the 20-pc big band, “Bill Wilkinson and the Long Island Sound Orchestra”; DJ music in between sets.
*This special event is dedicated to the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Brookhaven National Laboratory. The 1-hr. video of the 60th Anniversary Revue that was performed on March 21st at the Berkner Hall Auditorium will be played at the South Room. When you want to take a break from dancing at the North Room, you can go and relax at the South Room and watch the stage performance of some of your friends In addition, you will learn a lot of history about Brookhaven National Lab - from 1947, when it was born, up to the present!

The BNL Social & Cultural Club holds weekly dance socials (TGIFs) and workshops at the North Ballroom, Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory every Friday evening from 7 to 11:30 pm.
Unless otherwise noted, workshops and lessons are from 7:10 pm to 9:30 pm with a food break in-between, followed by open social dancing up to 11:30 pm at the Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, New York.
Cost per person: $15(members)/$20(non-members), or $8/$12 for social dancing only without the lessons; members rate applies also to all Bera members with BNL ID, SDLI members with ID, students with school ID, and all subscribers of the Social-L list and the Yahoo DanceLovers group. Get ready for a Special Benefit Dance on April 28, 2007! Have you bought your raffle tickets yet?
We will be having a special dance on that day from which all funds will be donated to Day One, a Sexual Assault & Trauma Resource Center in Providence! A new dance event sizzles at SOL Sunday April 29th 2007. They will be combining Dance Workshops, Fabulous Swing Bands, styling DJ’s playing great music at a hot NYC nightclub. If you dance, or if you just like great music, you won’t want to miss this.
April 29th Features The Boilermakers Jazz Band, Dance Workshops beginning late afternoon and a guest performance too! Doors open for general admission at 7:00PM. Band plays 8pm – 11:30pm.
