The BNL Social & Cultural Club holds weekly dance socials (TGIFs) and workshops at the North Ballroom, Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory every Friday evening from 7 to 11:30 pm.
Unless otherwise noted, workshops and lessons are from 7:10 pm to 9:30 pm with a food break in-between, followed by open social dancing up to 11:30 pm at the Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, New York.
Cost per person: $15(members)/$20(non-members), or $8/$12 for social dancing only without the lessons; members rate applies also to all Bera members with BNL ID, SDLI members with ID, students with school ID, and all subscribers of the Social-L list and the Yahoo DanceLovers group. We meet at the Smithtown Historical Society’s Brush Barn. Beginner swing lesson at 7:30 PM, with dancing between 8:00 PM and 11:00 PM.

The dances will be held in the main ballroom, which contains a circular wooden dance floor and a small stage for bands. The ballroom entrance is on the front-left corner of the building, please take the stairway down.

Mardi Gras is an annual celebration that takes place each February in Louisiana for a two and a half week period ending with Fat Tuesday and the beginning of Lent. All across Louisiana, Mardi Gras traditions are celebrated differently depending on one’s location and background. In New Orleans, Mardi Gras social clubs (Krewes) host a number of lavish costume balls and lead grand parades with massive floats throughout the city. In Cajun country, bands of costumed revelers on horseback ride through the countryside chasing chickens and gathering ingredients for a community gumbo to be served at the Mardi Gras fais-do-do. The black communities of both regions have their own traditions as well. Celebrants dress in elaborate feather and bead Mardi Gras Indian costumes in New Orleans where they parade, dance and chant among neighborhood tribes. Rural Mardi Gras celebrants congregate in the evening at the Zydeco clubs for a night of eating, drinking and dancing. Here in New England, at the annual CAJUN & ZYDECO MARDI GRAS BALL, we bring a sampling of these traditions together for two unforgettable nights of New Orleans, Cajun and Creole music, dance and food. So come and share in the joie de vivre of a Louisiana Mardi Gras and.... “Laissez les bon temps rouler!â€
RESERVED TABLE SEATING
Tables seating ten people can be reserved in advance at a cost of $325 per table. This price includes ten tickets to the ball. Each reserved table must be purchased as a complete block of ten tickets. The deadline for reservations is February 16. Please act quickly as tables in prime locations will go first! We assign table location in the order that payment is received. Please remember that when all downstairs tables are reserved, we assign table locations in the balcony.

From north or south on I-95, take Exit 14 to Route 37 East. On Route 37 East, take Exit 5B to Post Road North (also Route 1 North). Stay straight on Post Road North for 3 miles until the road ends. Take a left onto Broad Street into Pawtuxet Village. After the 1st light, take the 3rd left onto Rhodes Place. The ballroom is at the end of the street with plenty of parking space in the upper and lower lots.

COSTUME OPTIONAL BALL
At each of our previous Mardi Gras Balls, people have come dressed in every style of dress imaginable. We encourage everyone to get into the Mardi Gras spirit and to attend in full costume or formal wear and masks. Prizes are awarded to the best costumes in a variety of categories. This year we will award a grand prize of $250 to the best overall entrant. Other categories will include best group, best couple, best individual, most creative and most traditional. Entrants will be required to pre-register on site so we can place everyone in the proper category prior to the judging.
NO CONFETTI ALLOWED IN RHODES
Due to a number of incidents last year, the staff at Rhodes has requested that confetti not be allowed into the ballroom this year. Major cleanup of the facility as well as damage to the sound equipment due to confetti from the floor level and the balcony has convinced us that we should implement this policy. Please leave your confetti at home. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Pomodorino is located just North of the Long Island Expressway (Route 495) on Motor Parkway in Hauppauge. The building is opposite Marcus Blvd. This central location is close to Route 111, Veterans Memorial Highway (Route 454), Sagtikos State Parkway, Sunken Meadow Parkway, and Northern State.
From the West on the Long Island Expressway (495)
Get off at LIE exit 53 onto the South Service Road. (Exit 53 is also the exit for Saqitkos State Parkway.) Travel along the service road passing the Sagtikos State Parkway. Make a left onto Washington Ave at on of the lights. You will head North over the LIE, for about 1000 feet. At the intersection, turn right onto Motor Parkway. Proceed East for 500 feet, turn right at the next light into the Pomodorino parking lot.
From the East on the Long Island Expressway (495)

Join a friendly group of people every Tuesday evening for a mix of East Coast Swing, Savoy Lindy Hop, Hollywood Lindy, West Coast Swing, Balboa, Collegiate Shag and some Ballroom dancing. No partners are needed and beginners are welcome.

The BNL Social & Cultural Club holds weekly dance socials (TGIFs) and workshops at the North Ballroom, Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory every Friday evening from 7 to 11:30 pm.
Unless otherwise noted, workshops and lessons are from 7:10 pm to 9:30 pm with a food break in-between, followed by open social dancing up to 11:30 pm at the Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, New York.
Cost per person: $15(members)/$20(non-members), or $8/$12 for social dancing only without the lessons; members rate applies also to all Bera members with BNL ID, SDLI members with ID, students with school ID, and all subscribers of the Social-L list and the Yahoo DanceLovers group. (Special events have different rates).
Dance socials are open to the general public, but require a photo-id at the BNL front gate.
