We meet at the Smithtown Historical Society’s Brush Barn. Beginner swing lesson at 7:30 PM, with dancing between 8:00 PM and 11:00 PM.

Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Company of Long Island Presents it’s annual Fund Raiser. A Grand and Glorious Feeling! celebrates the music of the 1920’s and 30s with 20 vocalists and the South Shore Syncopators 10-piece Dance Orchestra.
The “show”—it is more of a concert—is put together a la a 1930 radio band broadcast, the type of which was the mainstay of the airwaves of the time. We have a few period-style commercials (for fictitious products), a little schtick here and there and some good music. Food, wine, raffles, door prizes—I am sure you know the type of event. It will take place at the Ethical Humanist Society in Garden City on Saturday night, March 1st at 8pm.
There are a few well-known chestnuts but also some songs that weren’t popular even when they were popular: “My Canary Has Circles Under his Eyes,” “Washing Dishes With My Sweetie” and a few others which, I suspect, are in few band’s active repertoire.

The simplest way to reach it is to find your way to Meadowbrook Parkway in Nassau County. From the north, take exit M1W to Old Country Road. Swing Dance Long Island has moved it’s weekly Tuesday swing dances to Pomodorino Ristorante Italiano in Hauppauge. Please note that we have also shifted the time 1/2 hour earlier. The swing lesson will being at 7:30PM with the social dancing from 8:00PM through 10:30PM.
The dances will be held in the main ballroom, which contains a circular wooden dance floor and a small stage for bands. The ballroom entrance is on the front-left corner of the building, please take the stairway down.

The BNL Social & Cultural Club holds weekly dance socials (TGIFs) and workshops at the North Ballroom, Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory every Friday evening from 7 to 11:30 pm.
Unless otherwise noted, workshops and lessons are from 7:10 pm to 9:30 pm with a food break in-between, followed by open social dancing up to 11:30 pm at the Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, New York.
Cost per person: $15(members)/$20(non-members), or $8/$12 for social dancing only without the lessons; members rate applies also to all Bera members with BNL ID, SDLI members with ID, students with school ID, and all subscribers of the Social-L list and the Yahoo DanceLovers group.
