City Rhythm has been dazzling audiences for many years with a distinct style and sound that has been praised by audiences and critics in both their hometown of Philadelphia and around the world.  Their stellar horns, rockin’ rhythm section, great arrangements and versatile vocalists create extraordinary music. Under the direction of Pete Spina and Nick Vallerio, the band’s talent and love of music shines bright.  They’ve been honored repeatedly with music awards in many diverse categories.

The depth of City Rhythm’s play list is truly astounding, and the musicians sound quite at home in all genres of music. The band is well know for doing fabulous shows at music festivals, concert halls and nightclubs, demonstrating the mass appeal of their sound. They often create presentations focused on specific styles or artists.  Theme shows include tributes to big bands like Basie and Ellington, vocalists like Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra, blues legends like Ray Charles, and more.  The “Music to Spy By” concert (with movie and TV themes) and “Holiday Style” show (with Christmas favorites), are two very popular performances. City Rhythm’s performance credits include an incredible list of venues and events.

They have entertained at weddings and corporate events in every major hotel, country club and music venue along the east coast.
The band has been featured at major events, nightclubs and festivals in cities throughout the USA, including notable venues in Philadelphia (Kimmel Center,
Mann Music Center); Atlantic City (Trump Casino, Borgata), New York (Lincoln Center, Highline Ballroom); Boston (Faneuil Hall, Swing City); Washington, DC (Clarendon Ballroom, Glen Echo); Tampa (Savoy South, Heritage Village);San Francisco (Sweets Ballroom, Biscuits & Blues Club); Chicago (Chicago Summer Festival), and others.

City Rhythm has developed a strong base of fans in Italy as well.  They have completed seven tours of the country, with successful shows in cities such as Rome, Florence and Venice, and at festivals in Umbria, Sicily and other provinces.
The band has recorded several successful CDs, including:  “Goin’ to Town” (1994), “Swinging Blue” (1997), “City Rhythm Strikes Again” (1999), “Sounds of Hope” (2001) and “Vibrant Tones” (2005). “Vibrant Tones” featured renowned jazz artist Joey DeFrancesco on the Hammond B3 organ.

It’s extensive airplay earned a spot on the national jazz charts for 18 weeks and landed the disc in Jazzweek’s List of the Top 50 CDs for 2005.  Since their start in 1985, City Rhythm has become a popular and successful group by putting their personal stamp on the music they love and a heartfelt energy behind all their work. For those that have experienced the band, that’s what has created the unmistakable “City Rhythm sound”.

Band: Ellen McCreary

At age 16, Ellen’s love of dance began when she went square dancing with her parents. She later studied Country Dancing which included Texas Two Step, Line Dancing, Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing, Waltz and Cha Cha. From there she branched out into Ballroom Dancing.  She has been in two performance groups, the Sundancers and the Lindy Hoppers, She has won several Jack & Jill contests over the years in West Coast Swing and Two Step. Although an accomplished dancer, Ellen thinks her main skill is making dance fun for her students whatever their level of accomplishment....particularly for those who are newcomers to the world of dance.

BOOGIE WOOGIE, TRADITIONAL BLUES, SWINGIN’ CLASSIC JAZZ STANDARDS, BALLADS AND MORE!: The Gail Storm Band does it all with Storm on keyboards and vocals AND her phenomenal sidemen-and women! Gail is a true performer as she reinterprets the classics and delivers the message directly to your dancing feet.

Gaye Adegbalola of “Saffire - The Uppity Blues Women”:

“Gail embodies the special ‘joie de vivre’ of a blues woman....Her boogie treatments make me want to shake my bootie, but the slow tunes hit me deep in the gut....On her debut CD, Just the Blues, she captures that joy, that special spirit...it becomes contagious to the listener!”

Gail Storm is a New York based singer/songwriter/pianist who performs in NY as well as on the national and international circuits. Her blues stylings embrace the root music she cherishes and provide a refreshing frame to other genres, such as classic jazz, pop and original compositions. Though Gail draws her musical influences from traditionally-based performers such as Meade Lux Lewis, Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Waller, and Louis Jordan, many of her fans compare her to modern day performers such as Diana Krall and Marcia Ball. The “Storm” is known to have a “heavy left hand” as demonstrated by her strong, rhythmic bass lines-particularly evident in the “boogie woogie”. Repertoire ranges from traditional blues and boogie woogie to swingin’ classic jazz standards, ballads, pop, and originals thrown into the mix.

Ms. Storm regularly performs in a wide variety of venues (solo or as bandleader) and has radio, film and television appearances to her credit. She has opened for Maria Muldaur, Henry Butler, and Bakithi Kumalo (of Paul Simon ). She has shared the stage with greats such as Charlie Sayles and Sarah McLawler. As bandleader, Gail has had such notable sidemen such as WyCliffe Gordon, Jerry Weldon, Toby Walker, and Adam Rapa. In addition to her performance schedule, Gail also leads multi-media music themed presentations (eg “Women In The Blues”, “Tribute to Carole King”, “The Essential Blues"), conducts Music and Art Workshops, and provides music lessons. She has been on staff at the award-winning Augusta Blues & Swing Week.

Discography includes her trio studio recording:  “Just The Blues”, a live sextet recording “Live At The Vail-Leavitt”, and a jazz collaborative work “Duets”. She is currently working on releasing a recording of original work in 2013-stay tuned!
