Friday, Jan 19, 2007 • Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Concert • IMAC

Posted by Tom on 01/18/2007 • SwingPermalink

Not sure how we are going to stay in our seats during this performance!

On Friday, January 19th, 2007 at 7 & 9:30pm, the Inter-Media Art Center (IMAC) in Huntington, Long Island will present a concert with swinging Big Band group Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

Tickets for this performance are $40.00 ($30.00 for IMAC Members).  For tickets or further information on this performance, or on other IMAC programs, call IMAC’s 24-hour Arts-Line at (631) 549-ARTS.  Tickets can also be purchased at the theater from noon to 6PM, Tuesday through Friday, and after 2PM on the day of the performances.  For further information, call IMAC’s business office at (631) 549-9666.

{REL[45][band]UvBUM8IQREL}

Venue: Intermedia Arts Center Theater

Intermedia Arts Center Theater

370 New York Avenue, Huntington, NY

http://www.imactheater.org/

Take the Long Island Expressway to exit 49N or the Northern State Parkway to exit 40N. The exit sign will say Huntington Route 110. After a few miles you will cross Jericho Turnpike. Route 110 will change its name to New York Avenue (but will remain Rte 110). After a couple of more miles, you’ll pass the Huntington train station on your right. About a mile past the train station at 370 New York Avenue, between Carver and Elm Street, still on Route 110 and right in the middle of the block, you’ll see a big old theater building with a flat marquee up against the building. That’s IMAC. We suggest you drive past IMAC to our north corner, Elm Street. Make a right up Elm and you’ll find a large free municipal parking lot. Park and walk back to New York Avenue to enter the theater.

By Train

If you’re traveling by train, take the Long Island Railroad to Huntington (the last stop on the Huntington line). Take a taxi to IMAC, 370 New York Avenue. Taxis and trains run all night. For more information you can call IMAC business office Tuesday through Friday 11 am to 6 pm and Saturdays of performances after 2 pm at (631) 549-9666 or e-mail at

What can be better then taking your honey to a movie and dancing on Valentine’s Day?

Found this on the Cinema Arts Centre website. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Valentine’s Day Ballroom Dance

Enjoy the sublime Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in the timeless classic:

SWING TIME

Followed by a Champagne/Dessert Reception & Free Lesson in Ballroom Dancing courtesy of the award-winning dancers from The Ballroom of Huntington!

Dress to the 9’s and Swing the Night Away with Cole Porter, George Gershwin, and more!

Swing Time opens with John “Lucky” Garnett (Fred Astaire), a gambler and professional dancer, arriving late to his own wedding. Still in tails, he hops a freight for New York , where he gets smitten by dance instructor Penny Carroll (Ginger Rogers). Following her to the studio, Astaire poses as a neophyte, but soon bursts into a dazzling display of terpsichorean skill. Impressed, the studio offers them an audition at the famed Silver Sandal nightclub. Arguably the peak of the Astaire-Rogers partnership, the dancers’ perfect blending of song, dance, wit, and decor only improves with time. Directed by George Stevens (1936, 103 min.)
