Band: The Buzzards
From the Buzzards web site....
The Buzzards are a rockabilly band out of Long Island.
Besides inciting riotous mayhem and general debauchery (not to mention occasional nudity), the Buzzards have performed at every rockabilly hot spot, including the Rodeo Bar in Manhattan and the Blue Comet just outside of Philly.
They are the house band at the Bayou in Long Island and performed at the Gold Coast Casino in Las Vegas for the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend four years in a row. They were rewarded with a standing ovation each year. They have performed at the Indy Rockabilly Rebel Weekend, the Heavey Rebel Weekender in North Carolina, and Rock n Rods in Philly. They performed for the Rockabilly Hall of Fame many times, most notably at the 50th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s first sold out concert, in Memphis, TN.
They are the band of choice to open for national acts and received outstanding praise for their performance with the great Scotty Moore. Scotty even came out to the diner with the Buzzards after the show.
The Buzzards’ CD, “The Grand Buffet,” is still available.

“Gail embodies the special ‘joie de vivre’ of a blues woman....Her boogie treatments make me want to shake my bootie, but the slow tunes hit me deep in the gut....On her debut CD, Just the Blues, she captures that joy, that special spirit...it becomes contagious to the listener!”
Gail Storm is a New York based singer/songwriter/pianist who performs in NY as well as on the national and international circuits. Her blues stylings embrace the root music she cherishes and provide a refreshing frame to other genres, such as classic jazz, pop and original compositions. Though Gail draws her musical influences from traditionally-based performers such as Meade Lux Lewis, Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Waller, and Louis Jordan, many of her fans compare her to modern day performers such as Diana Krall and Marcia Ball. The “Storm” is known to have a “heavy left hand” as demonstrated by her strong, rhythmic bass lines-particularly evident in the “boogie woogie”. Repertoire ranges from traditional blues and boogie woogie to swingin’ classic jazz standards, ballads, pop, and originals thrown into the mix.
Ms. Storm regularly performs in a wide variety of venues (solo or as bandleader) and has radio, film and television appearances to her credit. She has opened for Maria Muldaur, Henry Butler, and Bakithi Kumalo (of Paul Simon ). She has shared the stage with greats such as Charlie Sayles and Sarah McLawler. As bandleader, Gail has had such notable sidemen such as WyCliffe Gordon, Jerry Weldon, Toby Walker, and Adam Rapa. In addition to her performance schedule, Gail also leads multi-media music themed presentations (eg “Women In The Blues”, “Tribute to Carole King”, “The Essential Blues"), conducts Music and Art Workshops, and provides music lessons. She has been on staff at the award-winning Augusta Blues & Swing Week.
Discography includes her trio studio recording: “Just The Blues”, a live sextet recording “Live At The Vail-Leavitt”, and a jazz collaborative work “Duets”. She is currently working on releasing a recording of original work in 2013-stay tuned!

FLUFF AND CHARACTER!:
Hey there, swing fanatics! Barnard College, sister school of Columbia University, has just finished building an incredible student center, which contains a:
brand-spanking new
beautiful
cherry wood paneled
500 person capacity
AUDITORIUM, complete with its own stage and sound system!
Now, we here at CU Swing know that that poor, poor auditorium is going to be wasted on lectures and other boring stuff, so we immediately thought, “Hey! Let’s inaugurate it properly with some good old fashioned SWING MAYHEM!â€
And who better to lead us musically (and perhaps even spritually) than the 10pc. GEORGE GEE SWING ORCHESTRA (featuring vocalist John Dokes)!
Now, you might be asking yourself, “What the? A new, spacious, beautiful, hard wood floor? With live music from George Gee himself? This is amazing! But how much does it cost?â€
Well, have no fear my friends. CU Swing is by the people, for the people. So, if you’re not a student, this only costs you $10! WHAT!? That’s less than going to the movies!
BUT WAIT! Because CU Swing is by the students, for the students, if you’re a student, you can get in for only $5 dollars! That’s less than most meals! And we accept a student ID from ANY college! So please, people from other swing clubs around the country, come one, come all, to this glorious event!
WOW! This is a lot of information! Don’t worry, true believers, here is a summary and list of instructions.

Band: Gail Storm Band
BOOGIE WOOGIE, TRADITIONAL BLUES, SWINGIN’ CLASSIC JAZZ STANDARDS, BALLADS AND MORE!: The Gail Storm Band does it all with Storm on keyboards and vocals AND her phenomenal sidemen-and women! Gail is a true performer as she reinterprets the classics and delivers the message directly to your dancing feet.
Gaye Adegbalola of “Saffire - The Uppity Blues Women”:

Folks, the Battle of Bands that launches Midsummer Night Swing is just too good to miss so we’ve cancelled our 6/29 dance and will be heading out to NYC for two FABULOUS BANDS. It just doesn’t get much better than this. ROAD TRIP!!!
Battle of the Bands:
The George Gee Swing Orchestra vs.
The Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 6:30
Dance Lesson at 6:30, Live Music at 7:30
Which coast swings harder? Jazz musicians ceded East Coast/West Coast squabbles to hip-hoppers some time ago, but Midsummer Night Swing’s season kickoff is a high-octane rematch that proves old feuds die hard. Ten years ago on a hugely successful tour, hometown Count Basie disciple George Gee and hot L.A. pianist Bill Elliott put the question to the most discerning audiences of all: dancers. The gauntlet has been thrown down once again. Come decide who gets bragging rights.

“Fluid, engaging, potent, witty.†– Minneapolis Star Tribune
Trombonist-composer Wycliffe Gordon was on hand when swing found a permanent home at Lincoln Center two decades ago, and his career keeps hitting new plateaus. Playing for dancers in a Saturday evening slot is a particularly juicy platform for him: Gordon has been around the world as a jazzer, but because his earliest roots are in gospel music, he knows quite a bit about the frissons that turn Saturday-night hedonism into Sunday-morning confessions. And let’s face it, isn’t that who you want rocking your party?
